Mapping Audio Before Transcode

Sometimes we will receive a source file that doesn't have the required stereo pair on tracks 1 and 2, it will need mapping before transcode so that the deliverable file will be transcoded with the correct audio mapped.

If a source file has 5.1 audio it will usually look something like this on the language detect.

In this case, Channel 1 (tracks 1 and 2) is the front left and right of the 5.1 mix, Channel 3 (tracks 3 and 4) is the centre and LFE of the 5.1 mix, and Channel 5 (tracks 5 and 6) is the rear left and right of the 5.1 mix.

That leaves us with Channel 7 (tracks 7 and 8) as the stereo pair that we require for our deliverable file, so these are the ones that we will map to our output.

If we switch to the Logger tab we can do our mapping.

The correct mapping in this instance are tracks 7 and 8 from our source file (in_7 and in_8) mapped to tracks 1 and 2 of our transcoded deliverable (out_1 and out_2). Tracks are mapped by adding a '1' in the required fields.

Confirm selection by clicking the red tick under mapping, and you should get confirmation in the top right of the screen.

Once you are happy with the rest of your QC trigger the transcode as normal by selecting pending_transcode as the foo_status.

The sync of the video and the stereo audio will then need to be checked in the pending_transcode_QC queue.
