Overview

General Considerations

  • The overall number of chapter breaks should be dictated by the total program running time
  • Frequency and placement of chapter breaks for both movies and television material will differ based on the formatting of content (e.g., scene transitions, commercial blacks, etc.)
  • Timing between each marker will differ depending on overall duration
  • Ideal placement for chapter breaks within television content should be placed in the same location where commercial breaks appeared during broadcast
  • Cue Points must be formatted as HH:MM:SS:FF/HH:MM:SS;FF
  • Timecode must be on first frame of section after break will be inserted, i.e. if scene ends at 00:15:04:18, the break point marker must be at 00:15:04:19.

Per the approach outlined in the MovieLabs Media Manifest and SMPTE ST 2067-3:2016 IMF documentation, all marker locations are referring to an event that occurs on the left side of the described video frame when visualising a sequence of frames on a timeline.
